A WHO multicountry study on improving household food and nutrition security for the vulnerable
WHO considers household food and nutrition security as a basic human right. The WHO Department of Nutrition and Development (NHD) has undertaken a multicountry study in China, Egypt, Ghana, Indonesia, Myanmar and South Africa. Bringing together experts from fields as diverse as nutrition, anthropology, sociology, psychology, agricultural economics, economic geography, communication and education, this study examined malnutrition’s main causal factors. On this basis, guiding principles were prepared for protecting the nutritional needs of the most vulnerable and enhancing understanding of women’s productive, reproductive, nurturing, educational and economic roles.
